Yukadanbō (床暖房) – also yukadan for short, yukadanbō is a subfloor heating system installed prior to laying flooring. Yukadan is typically a network of pipes carrying hot fluid that radiates heat through the floor above and into living spaces. Because of the delicate nature of yukadan, flooring is typically installed with an adhesive as opposed to nailed. Also, due to the often large temperature fluctuations, extra care should be taken to avoid air pockets or an uneven subfloor, as this will facilitate conditions for floor creaking.
