Ranbari (乱張り) – a random pattern used for the installation of flooring, stone, or other aesthetic surface material. Ranbari means “random laying” in Japanese, and is used primarily for flooring that is narrow in width, as opposed to flooring that is “isshaku” (一尺) — 303 millimeters. The random and “scattered” features of ranbari can give your floor a more natural feel, but care should be taken to ensure the surface pattern of your flooring itself goes well with this style.
