El Caminito del Rey – The King’s little pathway

Easily one of the most exhilarating climbs in the world, this old, dilapidated pathway in Malaga, Spain Gaping crack in pathwaywas originally built in 1905 to transport supplies across the channel as well as to perform periodic maintenance. As you can see from the video, the thing is in such disrepair you’d have to be nothing short of a daredevil to attempt this one! One thing is for sure, it’ll sure get your blood flowing!

It was temporarily shut down in 2000 due to the high number of deaths involving some of those attempting the beautiful but deadly climb. Sure, falling 350 feet onto jagged rock below would definitely do it! The image above shows the gaping gaps and cracks due to age and weathering. At these points, all you can really do is take a deep breath and thrust yourself across that skinny little piece of steel, praying to God you won’t slip or lose your balance!

Kudos to whoever was filming – it’s scary enough without having to concentrate on getting good footage. I don’t know about you, but I’m putting this on my list of ‘things to do before I die’ ;-). Be sure to check out the video below!
