Ninku (人工) – the given daily wage, or man-day, for a fully-trained craftsman in the building industry. This amount may differ depending on the situation and company. Generally speaking, one “ninku” is between 20,000 and 25,000 yen. However, being that most craftsmen are hired by a larger general contractor or construction firm, the actual amount that the craftsman will receive may be anywhere between 5 or even 20 percent less. Of this amount, the craftsman may be required to shoulder some or all of his direct expenses — in some cases including the cost of a portion of the materials used.
