Mesukashi (目透かし) – a kind of tongue and groove board, either wood or sheetrock with a veneer finish, that is made to have a gap between boards (in the tongue and groove section) when installed. This type of material is often used for ceiling finishes, where eventual gaps between snug boards are inevitable. Japanese style rooms (和室) use mesukashi-tenjou (目透かし天井) extensively.
