Kusabi (楔) – n – a wedge or shim. In woodworking or carpentry, kusabis are often cut up as the need arises, or done so before-hand in bulk. They are also sold pre-cut for those who use them regularly and in large quantities, but doing it yourself allows you to make them the length and angle you want. Kusabi is useful for many things ranging from fixing floor creaks, to installing new flooring (use between flooring and wall to keep flooring in place), to a wide array of small adjustments that exploit the force exerted by the inclined plane.
