Korobidome (転び止め) – a piece of (usually, but not always) wood that is fastened adjacent to another larger one to ensure the latter doesn’t begin tilting under the expected loads. This korobidome can be beside the larger piece to be supported, or directly beneath it. The image below shows korobidome between roofing rafters for lateral reinforcement.
