Keikaru-ban (ケイカル板) – short for calcium silicate board (珪酸; ケイサン; keisan + カルシウム; calcium = kei-karu; 板; バン; ban; means board). Keikaru is known for its excellent fire-resistant properties, as well as stability and durability in wet and humid environments. As such, it is often the material of choice for use around the kitchen, balconies, soffits, etc. It is also a good substrate material for tiling and paints. Here in Japan they come in sabu-roku (3 by 6 shaku or 910 by 1820 mm) boards in the 5 to 12 millimeter thickness range.
