Kannon-biraki (観音開き) – aka ryou-biraki (両開き), a 2-door, center-opening hinged door system. Kannon-biraki is characterized by doors of equal dimensions opening from the center. The double door system can be cumbersome to operate in a high-use location if they are constantly needing to be opened and closed. As such, they are rarely seen in generic Japanese residential homes outside of closets and smaller storage spaces. However, they are often seen in larger openings where doors remain either opened or closed for long periods of time, such as in hotels, auditoriums, and/or other western designs.
