Hikikomido


Hikikomido (引き込み戸) – a sliding door that opens into a wall-pocket. The image below shows a hikikomi-type sliding door (left) and a normal sliding door (right), and illustrates the advantages of a wall pocket. A wall pocket allows you to place or store stationary objects (shelving etc) up against it, as opposed to having to leave that space open so as to not impede the movement of the door.
