Hari (梁) – the large horizontal beams running perpendicular to the keta (桁), that together, make up the primary structural support for the second floor as well as any subsequent floors above, including the roof. Hari and keta are distinct from those of the first floor, or foundation. These are known as “dodai“. Hari can be told apart from other shorter bridging members by its higher second moment of area.
