Doubuchi (胴縁) – nonstructural ribbing fastened either horizontally to vertical studs or vertically to plywood, as an anchor material for siding or other exterior finish. It doubles as a spacer when used over plywood, creating ventilation channels between the exterior siding and plywood. Horizontal doubuchi is used when siding material is vertical in direction.
